John Lowrie Morrison (Jolomo)

Solo Exhibition

Iona House Gallery is delighted be hosting a Solo Exhibition of 50 paintings by John Lowrie Morrison DA (Jolomo)

Internationally recognised as one of Scotland’s main contemporary expressionists, John’s vibrant palette depicting crofts, mountains, the rugged Scottish coastline and the Western Isles has made him one of Scotland’s most popular and best-loved artists.

Although Glasgow-born, John’s ‘roots’ originate from Harris. Consequently, the Western Isles have always been of great significance to him, both on a personal level and as inspiration for a great deal of his work.

In 2006 John set up The Jolomo Foundation and launched the ‘Jolomo Awards’ to support, encourage and promote the painting of the Scottish landscape by young and emerging artists. These are the largest privately-funded art awards of their kind in the UK - www.jolomofoundation.org.

In November 2008 John was presented with an Honorary Doctorate from the University of the West of Scotland and in November 2009 he received an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from Abertay Dundee University for, “a significant contribution to Scottish culture”.
