Morag Muir was born in Glasgow in 1960. She studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee from 1978-83 under eminent Scottish Artists including Alberto Morocco, Will MacLean and David McClure.
Morag takes inspiration from domestic interiors, family memorabilia, photographs, flowers and bric-a-brac. The luxurious veils of colour, flat planes and ambiguous space create something magical from everyday items. In recent years her palette has become increasingly vivid, often echoing the hues of Eastern iconography and early Christian art.
Morag is the recipient of numerous art awards. These include: the John Milne Purvis Prize; Scottish Education Department Major Travelling Scholarship; and a Scottish Arts Council Bursary for printmaking. Recently she received the Small Painting Award (RSW) the Adam Award, the William and Mary Armour Award and the Art Hire Framing Award (Paisley Art Institute).
