Irena Sibrijns

Irena’s work is a mixture of utilitarian ware and decorative ceramics. The utilitarian ware is produced on the wheel, the decorative pieces are often slab-built. The smaller, utilitarian pieces are made in limited editions, but each piece is still unique. The emphasis in the work is on the decoration, and shapes are kept clean and simple to act as carriers for the surface decoration.

Irena worked in France for seven years, and influences can be detected from the work of potters in the South of France.

She is also strongly influenced by textile designs from the mid-20th century, and by the work of British painters of the same period.

She works from a studio in Suffolk, near to the coast at Southwold.
