Donald Provan was born in Scotland in 1964. He studied at the Edinburgh College of Art from where he was awarded a BA (Hons) degree and a post-graduate diploma in Drawing and Painting in 1987.
He has attained various awards including the David Cargill Award - RGI and the Cuthbert Award for ‘New Young Artist’ - RGI in 2002. He was the recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant in both 1987 and in 1992.
He exhibits regularly in the annual exhibitions of the RSA, RGI and the Society of Scottish Artists.
His landscapes and fish paintings demonstrate his understanding and skill in the handling of texture, as well as his subtle understanding of tone and texture through his use of a limited palette of blues, greys and soft browns.
